…Therapy Session #1
Identity Establishment
Before today.. well a lil bit before.. I hadn’t realised it would be so damn difficult to establish an identity within a country, seemingly, as civilised as the UK.. and I have Right of Abode (the ability to work and live in the UK without exception). For example:
Identification needed to open a standard (cash point card) bank account:
- Passport
- Utility Bill or a letter from a government agency confirming your address of residence
Keep in mind.. i’ve been here for only 2 months.. they expect me to have bills! O_O
Another thing i soon realised is that without a National Insurance number.. you cannot get employed.. yet according to Job Centres here in the UK.. you do not need a NI Number to be employed…
I’ve already been turned down for not having a NI Number and a bank account. O_O
Today DP and I tried to sort stuff out.. we went to almost every bank in town and spent the best part of the morning at the Job Centre trying to sort out some way of getting an appointment to apply for a NI Number and gain Job Seeker status.. after been screwed over 50 billion ways.. we evenutally got stuff somewhat sorted.. I’m now a Job Seeker! heh.. [enter lame attempt of excitement in here] ..my gawd.. what a head..err screw!! O_o
Even with this lil head start.. if you could call it that.. i won’t be properly set until after the beginning of the new year.. how crappy’s that?!
*plots to continuously apply for work and prove to an employer that she’s worth the complications involved*
*breathes* calm.. and release… *smax UK Government* ..not all of us are fraudulent
…on the upside of todays events.. my CV got matched to a job today
..wish me luck!

I can’t believe how hard they’re makeing this for you…. I got my first job at W H Smith’s before I had an NI number.. They just put me down on an emergency tax code so I was paying like 40% tax
the NI they put me down as was TN 04 03 83 N , or “TraiNee, Normal”. *wonders if gurgi could steal that NI number for herself* :-p I would have thought that you’d have got an NI number as part of your emmigration process, but obviously not :-/ and not being able to get things sorted till the new year?
that’s harsh!!!!
anyway, enough of my babbling – good luck with everything hun, hope you get it all sorted out eventually and can start earning some serious moneh that you can give me a scrape off of
.
lol… well just so happens i got an account sorted today.. finally!! and.. funny.. i wouldnt mind working for WHSmiths.. I’ve worked with books plenty.. i can do it again.. *ponders*
oh yeah.. *starts up a trust fund for ya* :p
