IND-Web and XYZ-Network joined in social networking/blogging matrimony…

November16

IND-Web.com has collaborated with XYZ Internet to put together a blog/social network, much like Facebook, without the annoying apps.

I have just signed up for another blog with them, for which I’m still unsure as to what to do, but I’m thinking it might be good to do something like a reference guide with our lil girl growing up and all.. that way maybe other parents or grandparents, etc, may read the trials and tribulations we go through ourselves.. and hopefully find solution in something we have managed to survive through.

This is an open source based blogging and social networking platform, using the likes of WordPress MU and BuddyPress combined to provide an all round social network, that allows you to not only keep in touch with ya mates, but lets you express yourself through the ways of ‘Blog’.

Feel free to have a look, check out my profile..  this project is still in its infancy, but the more people we get involved, the further along we can move.

Gurgi gets friendly with Twitter..

September29

ok.. so I’ve heard this ‘Twitter’ being mentioned all over the place.. specifically at work.. and decided to investigate.. apparently it’s a micro blog.. no post is longer than 160 characters.. and its all about the in-between-happenings of your blogging .. or not so blogging.. life.. ie.. the little things that take place .. cos of course I know.. I’m notorious for it.. some don’t blog unless there’s a particular event.. Twitter covers the in-between..

.. so I signed up.. why not hey?.. what’s another Social Networking subscription.. I’m a Gemini.. it hadta be done :P

it helps that I’m familiarising myself with works tools.. even if it does gimme pretty buttons to add to this blog.. ‘cos now I know what the crap they’ve been going on about.. :)

so far.. I am my only follower.. and only following myself.. if there is anyone who feels the desire to join me.. this is my Twitter address:

http://twitter.com/gurgi_girl

..coolies.. maybe I’ll catch yas Twittin’ ;)

NextGEN issues..

July3

As you may have noticed.. the rate at which pics are being uploaded and displayed on my blog have screamed to a literal halt.. it has been made aware to me that PHP memory allocation has been reached for my blog and am unable to add any images for the time being as they cannot be resized.

For ages it was working fine… but since the WordPress upgrade.. and NextGEN plugin upgrade.. I’ve started experiencing issues.. it seems that thumbnails cannot be created as WordPress and NextGEN use up too much of my server’s memory..

Not to worry tho.. DP’s on top of it.. you may have noticed that he’s let them know what he thinks.. and we’re looking into alternative ways to display the hundreds of images I wish to publish.. one option being that DP puts together some sort of plugin that’ll work with Picasa Web Albums ..we’ll see how it goes..

..but anyways, your patientness is greatly appreciated as we fix the problem ASAP ;)

goodbye sagem… hello moto!

January6

my Sagem My-X7 dieded on Wednesday.. no warning or anything.. it was working at work.. and when I got home and got my phone out.. it was having a bit of a spaz attack.. backlight was flashing.. screen was flashing.. the signal indicator was going from telling me I had a strong signal to having a barred signal.. and the date and time were dancing as well.. :(

..initially, DP and I thought that there may have been condensation on the battery or in the phone itself.. so we pulled it apart and let it ‘dry out’ overnight.. but to no avail.. the second I tried to switch it on again.. it started its lil hissy fit all over again.. and the date was stuck on Wednesday’s date.. so naturally we decided the phone had crashed.. and it took a lot of numbers, pictures and tunes with it as well.. that’ll learn me for being slack and not investing in a mini USB data suite kit :|

now, I dun use my phone all that much.. but being almost 72 hours without my trusty lil security blanket.. it put a dent in my day-to-day ongoings.. even tho I didn’t need to use it.. I still missed it and needed it more than ever.. so it was time to hunt down another phone.. :D

DP and I aren’t exactly made of money.. and the fact that we needed a phone that we can take to Aus with us was an absolute must, meant we couldn’t just go out and buy the cheapest phone we could find.. and naturally.. as I was getting myself a new phone.. it was only fair I got DP an equal phone to go with mine.. seeing as his phone was getting pretty ancient anyways..

..we looked through many sites and the best deal we found was @ Phones 4 U.. a Motorola SLVR L6 and Motorola L6 – Black.. 39.95 each, both pay as you go with Orange.. the phone consists of features such as Triband, Bluetooth, WAP, Camera etc.. (DP really wanted the Bluetooth technology)..

Motorola SLVR L6..slick innit?.. *smiles*

DP has had a bit of a play with the phone.. unfortunately, due to security reasons.. Phones 4 U will not allow more than one handset to each order.. so his didn’t turn up this morning, like mine did.. but it gave him the chance to have a lil poke around and see how the features worked.. we didn’t hafta activate it.. cos it had already been done.. altho it didn’t come with any credit.. just a top-up card (how sweet of them..lol :P )

..so now all I gotta do is let everyone know my new number.. and wait fo DP’s phone to turn up so he can, too, have a brand new toy.. ;)

.. kinda strange that my Sagem decided to crash only weeks outside of its warranty.. *ponders*

…website tweakage

January1

you guessed it.. DP’s been at it again :P well.. it’s not like it wasn’t warranted.. every day a new bug was appearing on my site.. and gradually screwing up the way the site was viewed.. so DP decided to use the same template design yet reincorporate it onto wordpress default template.. that way we shouldnt have any bugs..

mind you.. although the design’s been merely incorporated.. DP has been a lil creative himself in redoing the top menu bar and site logo.. including a random speech bubble that displays random text from previous posts.. which is quite funky ;)

i used to have the patience to fiddle with website detail.. but it seems DP has taken over that part of me..lol and he’s doing a brilliant job :D

i think the biggest hurdle of getthing the revamp to work was having it cooperate with IE.. so the design has been tested on the following:

IE [version 6.0.2900]
Firefox [version 1.5.0.9]

if you happen to use a different browser and it doesn’t display correctly.. lemme know ;)

Thankya DP baby.. *likes muchly* :D

data loss: ..almost 4 months worth!

October21

for those who happen to frequent my page.. you would have noticed that my log has gone through somewhat of a timewarp.. jumping from the most recent posts within October.. and going straight back to beginning of July..

unfortunately.. DP’s cluster crashed a couple of weeks back.. and we’ve both lost data.. he’s lost his entire blog .. and i’ve lost almost 4 months worth.. and that means there’s about 14 posts that havent been able to be recovered.. i will do my best to do an update this weekend..summarising on all events that were blogged about.. if i can remember them..

i would say im sorry.. but im the one that has lost the data.. so it’s not exactly fitting..

anyways.. its gonna take some time to get things back up and running properly.. for those who have websites hosted by IND-Web… your data was protected and untouched.. it was just our (DP & I) personal home directories that went awol..

ah well.. yet another lesson learnt the hard way.

This is Gurgi.Girl’s blog..

I am Gurgi.Girl..

I’m a Gemini Metal Rooster.. if yanno what that means than you can imagine I’m quite a character :P

In recent years, I’ve lived and worked in the UK.. hooked up with Deadpan110, whom I’ve known for years prior to our partnership, we’ve since had a daughter, Callia, in May 2007 and we are now residing in Australia.

Workwise.. I work in Customer Service.. always have and I’m pretty sure always will.. despite the amount of times I’ve tried to branch off from this industry.. it’s followed me eagerly! There’s obviously something about the chaos and instability that has me accepting it back every single time.. or that I’m so damned good at it.. I just like to show off ;)

My Facebook profile

Renee Walker's Facebook profile

Probably the most up-to-date profile on my personal events, photos etc… other than my blog of course, Facebook is an easy way for my friends and family to keep in touch…

If I know you.. add me as a friend to view my profile ;)
